Our focus is involving people in the development and delivery of health and social care services.

Healthcare Improvement Scotland – Community Engagement works alongside NHS boards and integration authorities and gathers the opinions and experiences of people to shape national policy.

We do this through:

Using a range of engagement methods, we report on the opinions and experiences of people to shape policy for the Scottish Government

  • Working with NHS boards and integration authorities to ensure engagement with local communities throughout changes to services.
  • Providing assurance that people and communities have been involved in any major service change.

  • Facilitating networks for governance and management across NHS boards to support a wide range of volunteering opportunities.

Equipping Professionals

  • Giving guidance, tools and techniques to involve people in shaping the services.
  • Ensuring people who are often not involved are reached and included in any engagement.
  • Providing training and support to staff to develop skills in community engagement or specific participation tools.

  • Providing an opportunity for people to share their experiences of community engagement and keep up to date with tools, techniques and current practice.
