Evaluating participation

Evaluating Participation: a guide and toolkit for health and social care practitioners

This guide and Toolkit have been developed to support the evaluation of public involvement and participation in health and care services.  A partner to the Participation Toolkit, it is a stand-alone guide for anyone working in community engagement, public involvement or participation for the purpose of planning and improving health and care services.  It does not set out to be a definitive guide to evaluation, but aims to provide resources, references and tools to help you develop your own evaluation. The guide aims to:

  • Support the development of effective frameworks for evaluating participation in health and care services
  • Offer adaptable tools and templates to assist with a range of evaluation projects, and
  • Direct users to further resources and guidance on evaluating engagement and participation.

Key highlights include:

  • The purpose of evaluation
  • The importance of evaluation
  • Frameworks and guidance
  • Evaluation essentials
  • Methods and ethical considerations
  • Using findings for improvement, and
  • Toolkit resources.
