Supporting engagement: the development of national guidance and a framework to support practice

Event date: 16 June 2021

Event time: 2:00 to 3:00 pm

This webinar focused on 2 important recent developments for involving people in the planning and delivery of health and social care services:

  • In March, Scottish Government and COSLA published Planning with people, guidance for NHS boards, integration joint boards and local authorities to support effective collaboration and meaningful engagement. It sets out the responsibilities each organisation has to community engagement when services are being planned, or changes to services are being planned, and supports them to involve people meaningfully.
  • Healthcare Improvement Scotland and the Care Inspectorate are developing a Quality Framework for Community Engagement which is aligned to this guidance. It supports NHS boards, integration joint boards and local authorities to meet their legal duties with regard to community engagement, and to continually improve their engagement practices. The framework will also be used to identify and support improvement in community engagement practice, as well as identify and share good practice.

This session provides an overview of these developments, and how they will be taken forward over the coming year.
